ZLC Energy delivers hospital solar-plus-storage system with £750,000 annual saving

The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry, Shropshire, completed a six-year solar-and-battery project in July 2026, with the full system now operational. ZLC Energy, the installer, describes it as the UK's most comprehensive hospital solar-plus-storage system — a self-description rather than an independently verified title.

The 3 MW solar array and 650 kWh battery are projected to save the hospital £750,000 a year in electricity costs and cut its dependence on the rural grid by 75%. The system is expected to generate 2.5–3 GWh annually against a site demand of 3.3–4 GWh, and to avoid around 600 tonnes of CO₂ each year. The hospital has 15 operating theatres and around 200 inpatient and critical-care beds. The system operates within DNO export limits, which is a common constraint for large rural commercial installations.

Naked Solar reaches 1,000 Tesla Powerwall installations

Naked Solar, based in Newquay, Cornwall, has passed 1,000 Tesla Powerwall installations across households and businesses. The company holds Tesla Premium Installer status and describes itself as one of only ten UK installers to have reached this volume — a self-reported figure rather than an independently audited ranking. Tesla's representative George Rowe visited Naked Solar's Quintdown Business Park headquarters in person to mark the milestone.

Naked Solar operates from three locations: its Newquay base, a Bristol hub at Avonbank Industrial Estate, Avonmouth, and an Exeter hub at Sowton Industrial Estate.

Viridian Solar and Crocus Homes partner on new-build solar in Norfolk and Suffolk

Viridian Solar and Crocus Homes, an NHBC A-rated housebuilder based in Norwich, have agreed a two-year partnership to fit roof-integrated solar PV on new homes in Norfolk and Suffolk. Crocus Homes is part of the Saffron Group; the arrangement applies across developments where a solar requirement is specified, not as a blanket commitment to every plot.

The product is Clearline fusion — a flush roof-integrated system rather than an above-tile mount — paired with the Clearline Inverter and an ArcBox DC Connector Safety Enclosure. One named development is Damgate Meadows.

New-build buyers in this part of East Anglia may find solar included as part of the purchase rather than as a later retrofit. Roof-integrated solar avoids the structural and aesthetic compromises of an add-on installation, and financing it through the property mortgage is simpler than arranging separate funding.

Energi North East installs its first sodium-ion battery system

Energi North East has completed its first sodium-ion battery installation — also described as a salt water battery — for a domestic customer in the North East. All the company's previous battery projects used lithium chemistry. This is Energi North East's first sodium-ion deployment; it is not a claim about a UK industry first.

The system uses four 4.5 kWh modules for 18 kWh total storage, paired with an Eleven inverter. The battery manufacturer has not been disclosed. The installer plans an extended monitoring period to compare sodium-ion performance against lithium iron phosphate over time, which should yield useful comparison data for future customers.

One practical point for homeowners with limited space: sodium-ion systems currently occupy a larger physical footprint than an equivalent lithium iron setup at the same capacity. Sodium is derived from seawater rather than hard-to-source lithium — which is the supply chain argument for the technology — but it remains at an earlier stage of commercial development than lithium. Solmatix and GRAHAM agree UK and Ireland renewables supply framework

Solmatix, a Northern Ireland-based renewables specialist, has agreed a framework supply arrangement with GRAHAM, one of the UK's larger construction and facilities management contractors. The framework covers solar PV, battery energy storage, and EV charging across projects in the UK and Ireland, with Solmatix providing input from early specification through to commissioning and ongoing technical support. No contract value has been disclosed; the arrangement is a framework that GRAHAM can draw on for relevant projects rather than a guaranteed pipeline of committed work.
