Choosing solar installers in Birmingham
Compare Birmingham solar installers on TopGreenDeals and send shortlisted companies the same roof details and electricity-use figures. If you are also checking grant support, establish which route you intend to use before accepting a private installation contract.
Birmingham City Council's Warm Homes Local Grant page limits its current programme to designated priority areas. It names Balsall Heath, Bromford, Castle Vale, Sparkbrook, Sparkhill, and Tyseley and Hay Mills. Living elsewhere in Birmingham does not establish eligibility for this particular programme. Even within those areas, households must meet the scheme criteria.
Solar PV is one of the possible funded measures, but the council describes a fabric-first assessment that prioritises insulation and ventilation. The technical survey determines suitable work. Approved measures also depend on programme budgets and value-for-money checks, so an application does not guarantee panels or your preferred system.
If you are paying privately, ask for a panel-only design before comparing battery options. Give each installer the same information about daytime occupancy and any planned change in electricity demand. Ask which assumptions underpin the savings estimate and how it changes if you use less generation at home.
The council identifies its delivery contractor on the grant page. A company appearing in this directory is not thereby appointed to that programme. Use the official council route for grant enquiries; use TopGreenDeals profiles to contact installers for independent quotes. Compare the final equipment schedule, access costs and payment stages before choosing.

Frequently asked questions
- Can any Birmingham household receive Warm Homes solar panels?
- No. The council page restricts the current programme to named priority areas and eligible households. Solar PV is a possible measure, subject to technical assessment and programme checks; it is not guaranteed.
- Can I choose solar instead of insulation through the grant?
- You can express a preference, but the council describes a fabric-first approach. The technical assessment, industry standards, value-for-money checks and budget determine the approved measures.
- How do I compare solar panel quotes in Birmingham?
- Compare the proposed panel layout, system size, inverter and estimated annual generation. A useful written quote also sets out scaffolding, electrical work, installation costs and aftercare, with any optional battery priced separately.
