Absolute crooks!Even though my contract clearly stated they were applying for the RHI grant, they didn't, despite telling me they were.I'm out of pocket for £12k!DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.......they are not trustworthy.
FDG installed an ASHP system 3 years ago and I was impressed with FDG’s performance: competitive; installation excellent; fast reaction to any post installation questions. So, based on my earlier experience, when I decided to go for a Solar PV system in 2022, I chose FDG for this work as well: with the benefit of hindsight, this was a BIG MISTAKE.According to Steve Allan, the CEO, I was the launch UK customer for new-model inverter & batteries from Soltaro; Steve assured me that the Soltaro kit was the best on the market. The kit is very good, but the after-sales service from FDG has been – and still is – APPALLING. The following gives a flavour of FDG’s performance: • My Quotation [which formed part of the Contract] contained inconsistencies in stated warranties and stage payment terms together with a lack of payment milestones [the balance was to be payable on completion, but FDG demanded the balance before starting the installation!]. The Quotation offered 20-30 year warranties [just like on FDG’s then website] and, instead of resolving the minor inconsistencies, Steve Allan has since reneged on all of it by reverting to 10 years. This is a breach of Contract and still an ongoing dispute.• Within a few days after installation in Sep 22, the inverter was not working correctly and, after 1 month, crashed. I GOT NO ACTION FROM FDG until, while Steve Allan was away on holiday, his ‘trouble shooter’ organized a new electrician [who was brilliant] within 1 day to fix the snag, which he found was an installation error that was causing over-voltage in the inverter.• After-sales service and documentation - non-existent: o No post-installation documentation; it took 6 months to get a DNO letter (without which one cannot apply to export excess PV), and even then there was an error; o No instruction on how to use Soltaro’s apps for controlling the system [in contrast, Soltaro support has been excellent];o I could not register my Sotaro kit because FDG would not give me FDG’s installer & Partner Accreditation numbers – these took 4 months to get from FDG. Of course, FDG should have registered the Soltaro kit for me, but it didn’t.• Colour variation in the solar panels: I have 18 and I noticed that 8 are black and 10 are black with a brown hue. Reported to Steve Allan 2 weeks after installation. My stance was that the panels must be changed to al the same colour. I later agreed a deal with Steve Allan that I would live with them on condition that FDG pay for pigeon/bird proofing around the panel array; he has reneged on this agreement and, in Jul 23, I organized the proofing to be done and sent the bill to Steve Allan for reimbursement…. surprise: no reimbursement from FDG! An ongoing dispute.I raised a formal complaint against FDG as per its Complaints Procedure on 1 Mar 23. 5 months on, I await any written response to my complaint. In short, FDG’s Complaints Procedure is not worth the paper it’s written on: nice words, but no action….a common theme when dealing with FDG I will be elevating my complaint to FDG’s regulatory body.Summary FDG now is so different compared to the one that fitted my ASHP system. Now, the CEO seems to run around with his hair on fire, either promising the Earth and delivering nothing or, more usually, just ignoring e-mails from customers; FDG’s admin is shoddy at best; the organization is chaotic; documentation extremely poor. Sadly, FDG is no longer a company that any customer dare trust: it takes your money and then you are on your own. My STRONG recommendation is DO NOT USE FDG.
This company has not paid the invoice to northern power company and sent it to me after me paying them £ 13.5 thousand pounds what a rotten trick even put Stephen Allan on invoice and my address I have contacted northern power company to advise them I’m willing to take it to court
Just had an inverter upgrade on our solar battery system originally installed by FDF in 2019. Fantastic service from Steve and the team. All sorted within 2 days.
avoid this company, the worst liars all of them they want you to pay upfront and then you have to chase it for your itemsbooking appointments and nobody showed but its not they fault give you an "upgrade" without and upgrade and still asking for full payment for not finished job
Installation of solar panels or an ASHP was not a straightforward affair. It required our acceptance of the different modes of working and the process of understanding how each work. In addition to this, we had installations during covid19 and supply of components was difficult. As a science teacher, I have been teaching the importance of renewable energy systems for the last 20 years, and the restriction of availability of fossil fuels, as well as the effect on global warming. So as soon as we were able, we invested in both ASHP and solar panels. We found FDG to be confident with both the science and the latest technology, and to work with a business like approach. They didn't break down the price because they know the competition but they did know how to calculate the best system for our home, when we asked them to explain. And they were very good at that. Every call was answered or returned. But not pushy, and we liked that. It was a long time before our solar electricity export to the national grid was arranged as this required a few exchanges between FDG and the network operator. We hadn't realised that. But all sorted now, just as electricity prices go up. So we are very satisfied.
First of all I was asked to pay for the EPC survey as that's done by an independent party. However, the person who came to do the survey used an FDG email address, which would suggest that he worked for FDG. The EPC wasn't uploaded after the survey and I was told by FDG that it will be done only after the installation. Not professional! From the day of quotation till I paid my initial deposit, FDG sales team rang me 2-3 times a week asking for payment. As soon as the payment was done, they went quiet for days and when I rang to get clarity on the schedule of work, they passed me from one person to another and then promising to ring, but didn't. This went on a for 3-4 days until I said that I would like to cancel the order. At this point FDG Director assured me that he will ensure that I don't have any more problems. Overall, the installation took around 2 months to complete as FDG messed up everything they possibly could. 1) FDG installed the wrong unit (std unit as opposed to agreed coastal unit), smaller sized cylinder, burnt the carpet and left solder iron marks on the carpet, caused a leak in the ceiling as they cut the pipes off before emptying the water cylinder in the loft (Seriously!!!), fitted incorrect sized radiators in some places, drilled holes bigger than required. I ended up supervising them all 5 days to ensure that they fit things correctly2) The pipework was unprofessional. They used around 40 ft copper pipes to join the shower to the 22mm pipe under the floor board that was hardly 4 ft below the shower... They moved radiators from one place to another making a right mess of the walls.. 16 holes left in the bathroom after they were done with the installation. The radiator pipes were not levelled.. as result caused air pockets stopped the heat pump every other day. Most of the pipework had to be redone. 3) FDG engineers didn't know that they can simply change the setting in Ecodan for "space heating only" if there is an issue with the air pump. Instead, they fiddled with the wiring to make a direct connection which messed the system up.. and got the water heating to 85 degrees and completely shutting down the system. They attached the electrical wiring to my neighbour's fence, parked their vans on the grass and made a mess - lack of courtesy in my opinion. 4) They promised to provide me with of 10 years Mitsubishi guarantee and 10 years of HIES backed guarantee for workmanship, but only provided me 3 years Mitsubishi warranty5) As a courtesy we offered the engineers tea/coffee/biscuits and allowed them to use the toilets in the house, which we regretted as they spilt drinks on tables, on the water tank and didn't have the courtesy to clean it. They used the toilets, spat on the wash basins and didn't even clean up or flush the toilet after use!!!6) They kept on using the RHI payment as a threat to make me pay the full amount even before they had completed the installation. Luckily, I didn't fall for it.7) It seems that because of FDG fiddling with the wiring, Legionella protection didn't work as the immersion heater wasn't working. FDG did 2 visits, but couldn't find the problem. FDG contacted Mitsubishi for help, but couldn't get them to come over as FDG had an unresolved dispute with them. So, after a few weeks, I approached Mitsubishi directly, and they fixed the problem in less than an hour.8) After the issue was fixed, FDG bragged that they have all the required parts and skillset, but of course, none of this was available when I needed them to fix something - very convenient!!! Eventually, I withheld the final payment until they fixed the damages caused and raised a complaint with HIES. As per advice from HIES, I made the final payment, but FDG did not fix all of the issues. I, even agreed to have an electric shower installed (paid for the shower myself) in lieu of the smaller sized cylinder thinking replacing the tank will be too expensive for FDG and they will appreciate this generosity and provide me a good service. However, they fixed decoration issues and paid some compensation for the carpets, but didn't provide me the coastal unit or 10 years of Mitsubishi warranty despite signing the agreement. So, HIES advised me to go to Ombudsman.Advice to home owners, don't make the full payment until you are satisfied with the work,cross-check the model numbert. In my case a coastal unit (with excellent corrosion resistance) was agreed but a non-coastal unit was installed. If I wouldn't have checked the model number, FDG would have got away with it.And please do inform HIES, MCS, NIC EIC, TrustMark if you see any such malpractice being followed so that collectively, we can reduce such occurrences.FDG may write a response to my review, but facts are facts and I am willing to share more info (within reasons of course).
Nottingham Energy Centre also trade as FDG Group Ltd.Charged £199 for an EPC certificate and never lodged it.Never applied to the DNO for permission prior to installing the equipment here: 5kw inverter, 10kw battery and 5kw Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP). Didn't submit the appropriate forms after installation either. FDG quoted for a battery and inverter with a lifetime warranty. After the battery and inverter were fitted by the sub-contractor, a booklet was left that told me where to go for an extended 5 year warranty. It turned out that the battery and inverter only came with a 5 year warranty plus 5 years on registration on the website - which FDG stopped me from doing. They also quoted for a configuration that can't be fulfilled - eg 15kw of battery storage. For this brand it was 5kw x 3 to make the correct capacity. FDG installed 1 x10kw battery. I cancelled the second battery when I found out about their fraudulent activity. They didn't even fit the solar panels that they'd contracted to do and the Iboost hasn't been installed either. Contract price was £22,800 for equipment that didn't come with a lifetime warranty. That's fraud.FDG Group Ltd have been reported to the Police for Fraud and to Trading Standards for a criminal complaint.FDG refused to provide a written breakdown of their invoice. This was requested 3 times in writing.FDG engineers didn't take appropriate measures to safeguard my home, as stated in the clause in their contract. Incorrectly installed ASHP. Placed water cylinder in loft without prior loading calculations. Damaged my home in the process and still haven't repaired it all. Created dangerous situations with wiring and piping that should have been removed. Ignored Nottingham City Council Building Inspector's request for loading calculations and placing the cylinder on a plinth. Refused to reply to formal written complaint. Refused to meet for a recorded mediation meeting. Trader lodged MCS certificates for systems that aren't commissioned (not working properly and not completely, correctly installed). They're not supposed to do this until everything is working correctly. The system still doesn't work properly. Reported them to Trading Standards. The water cylinder regularly locks up and there is a leak in the system. I often come home to a house that is 13c. They were briefed about my disabilities and particular needs and didn't take of my home/refuge.Complained to American Express who pulled the money back and I now to have to find a reputable company to rectify FDG's shoddy work and then pay them what they are actually worth, after repairing my home and discounting an amount for the stress caused. Do not make any cash, BACS or Debit card payments to FDG - pay by credit card only so you have some protection. Complaints have been lodged with all of their compliance organisations.Which? have removed them from Trusted Trader status following the detailed complaint.
buyer beware avoid this company like the plague!over 2 years ago they started to install SolarEdge and it's still not completed.they'll take your money before it's completed too! This company ignored the HIES Omdubsman's decision which found in my favour.they took £7,000 of inverter and batteries from my property and have 2 years later only just replaced them thanks to my contacting Which and CheckaTrade. This company is not trust worthy, i recommend you stay well clear of them unless you want to wait 2+ years to get the job completed.
